I read The Planetarium by Nathalie Sarraute

I loveeee these books that are just like... A bunch of middle class French people having a series of Sims double negative social interactions rendered in excruciating detail. Like Perec's Things if it was meaner and more personal. Sarraute is the master of representing the machinations of thought and feeling and it's crazy the granularity with which she depicts a series of fairly banal but unpleasant conversations. I feel like I am sometimes too easy on my characters in the sense that I give them some redeeming qualities or understandable motivations but this made me want to write some real psychological trainwrecks and smash them together lol.
