Dahongpao

Type of tea: Oolong

Brewing method: 6oz in gaiwan, boiling water

This was a really complex and interesting oolong that is a good example of why I love them so much. The first steep smelled great, and had a sort of maltic fruitiness (like apples) that was strongly represented in the smell with some slight spice. The taste was smooth and understated given the impression the smell made, but still really nice. The second steep brought in a wayyyy more earthy smell, almost soil-like, that interacted nicely with more of the sweet notes coming out in the flavor too. Kind of a pleasant bitter sap taste. Further steeps made the tastes mingle together a little more with the light spicyness and creaminess. If you want to give some high quality oolongs a spin, white 2 tea's are some of my favorites.
